Why this toolkit
Show seasons stack on top of each other. Paris in September, Milan, London, New York. Between campaigns, Saint-Tropez, Marrakech, or Bali for two months of slow life. The analog stack from a decade ago — passport + bank card + extortionate roaming — does not hold anymore. Here is the 2026 digital toolkit field-tested by the editors and models who travel ten months a year.
Not a generic comparison. A curated stack for the specific rhythm of international fashion.
1. eSIM — the connection that follows you
The era of physical SIM cards bought at the airport is over. An eSIM installs in two minutes from iPhone or Pixel, and works in 150+ countries without changing your main number.
Holafly offers unlimited day or week packages, ideal for short intense show weeks. Airalo is cheaper for long stays (two months in Tokyo) with fixed data packages. Saily is a newer entrant combining data + privacy layer.
Our pick by use: Holafly for PFW/MFW (short unlimited), Airalo for longer destinations, Saily if you want the VPN layer included.
2. VPN — privacy + media access
On hotel and café Wi-Fi, a VPN is no longer a luxury. It is also the only way to access Netflix France from Tokyo, or BBC iPlayer from Marrakech.
NordVPN remains the reference: 6000+ servers, decent speed on European nodes, reliable kill switch. ProtonVPN is the privacy-first alternative based in Switzerland, with a usable free tier. ExpressVPN costs more but is excellent for streaming.
The only metric that matters: speed on servers near you. Test at signup (most offer 30-day money-back).
3. Pro neobank — international payments without hidden fees
Classic banking fees on pound, dollar, yen payments destroy margins. A multi-currency neobank fixes this.
Wise (formerly TransferWise) offers a multi-currency account with debit card, interbank rate, and on-demand conversion. Revolut offers similar with more features (travel insurance on Premium plan, lounge access).
For freelance fashion (models, photographers, stylists), Qonto or Shine offer a French pro account with FR IBAN, accounting integration, and virtual cards for online purchases.
4. Premium card — insurance + lounges
Beyond payment, a premium card unlocks airport lounges (useful for long layovers), travel medical insurance, and better forex rates.
Revolut Premium or Metal includes travel insurance, Priority Pass access to 1 400+ lounges. American Express Platinum costs more but unlocks exclusive Centurion lounges (Heathrow, JFK, Hong Kong).
5. Travel insurance
Dedicated travel insurance (beyond your bank card) covers cancellations, medical repatriation, premium luggage loss. A Loewe bag lost on a Roissy-Newark layover costs more than a year of coverage.
Chapka is the French reference for long trips (up to one year). AXA Schengen is mandatory for non-EU visitors to France. Assurever offers weekly packages for short stays.
6. Universal adapter — the small thing that saves
Small, forgotten, indispensable. A universal adapter with USB-C PD ports (65W minimum) charges your MacBook + iPhone + Apple Watch in parallel.
The MOGICS Donut is compact and works in 150 countries. Cheaper exists on Amazon but bottom-tier models fry Apple chargers on unstable 220V (India, Brazil).
7. Productivity — Notion mobile
All creative work on the road runs through a synced note-taking app. Notion has become the reference for editors, stylists and bookers: moodboards, show calendars, agency contacts, draft articles. Cloud sync, offline access for long flights.
8. Luggage — the suitcase that lasts a decade
A good suitcase lasts ten years. Rimowa Essential Cabin (polycarbonate, 5-year warranty) is the standard. Tumi 19 Degree is the more austere alternative. Away delivers 80% of Rimowa for 50% of the price.
